Etapa 20: Bercianos to Mansilla de las Mulas

Most days, our morning routine consists of gettting up, packing our bags, walking to the next town, and then stopping for coffee and something to eat. So, imagine our disappointment when today, after 7.5km, we arrived to the first town of our walk and did not find an open bar. Much disappointment. Luckily, we had some leftover pizza in mum’s bag, so we sat on the side of the road and ate that instead.

Most of today’s walk was back on the road, which isn’t always easy walking. The track ends up being narrow and overgrown with weeds, and at times can be difficult to walk comfortably. Mum also decided that today was the day she was going to be super speedy (or maybe I was just being particularly sluggish) and I struggled to keep up with her at times. It wasn’t for another 13km after that first town that we reached the next one and finally somewhere to buy breakfast, if it could still be called that.

There wasn’t much interesting to take photos of today – I was looking at the back of mums head for a lot of it!! Mum has been enjoying tractor spotting though, and she got another tractor photo today. Who knew she was so into farm equipment!? The town we’re staying in is pretty though, so I have a few pics from after we arrived. Mum commented that it was quite a big town, “like Gore!”

It’s getting warm again – 31°C today, 33°C forecast for tomorrow. We thought we would allow ourselves a sleep in considering it’s a shorter walking distance tomorrow, but we’re reconsidering as we would quite like to beat the heat!
