Etapa 10: Nájera to Santo Domingo de la Calzada

It was another reasonable flat day today – there was a bit of a climb in the middle, and a decline towards the end, but again it wasn’t a particularly challenging walk.

We passed on the albergue breakfast and instead stopped in Azofra for tortilla and coffee. As we finished eating, some familiar faces started appearing and it was time to continue on our way.

Today’s walk was the first time so far that I began to get a bit bored while walking. We generally walk in silence, just listening to the sound of our own footsteps. Often I feel like I’m not even really thinking. My mind is blank. I just walk. Today though, my mind didn’t want to be blank. I was tempted to listen to music as we walked, but I didn’t. As we came into town we chatted with some Irish women who were lovely and helped the time to pass a bit quicker, which was a nice distraction!

Our albergue tonight is quite nice. Once again, it’s run by the church. It’s set up well with good facilities, and it seems clean enough. We’re in a room of 8 tonight, but as I’m writing this only 6 beds are occupied. I feel like I’ve not gotten enough sleep recently, as we’re generally woken at around 5:00am, so I’m looking forward to bedtime tonight!
