Happy 2014, everyone! Hope you all had a delightful night! After school we all met up and crossed the border into Hong Kong, got some dinner, and set out to look for somewhere with a good view for the countdown. We thought we had found a pretty good spot, there were quite a few other people there so we figured it is probably a good place to view it from, good view of the skyline etc, so we camped out there for a wee while. Earlier in the evening, Alicia had seen a couple of Chinese people sneaking behind the cordoned off area down behind a building, though, so we went to see if we could get a better view there. It was awesome, we could probably see more of the skyline than we could in the old spot, and it was just us and maybe 10 other people, right on the water. So nice! So we had an awesome view of the fireworks, which you can see here. After the countdown we went on a McDonald’s mission and headed back to the 24hr crossing between HK and the Mainland. It was a very cool way to spend the evening.
And of course last week was Christmas. CTLC and the Shenzhen Education Bureau organised for us to be put up in a hotel and have a Chinese banquet-dinner. The next day, Christmas Day, we just relaxed, checked out, got some lunch in town, and I went home for a nap haha. Christmas isn’t really a recognised holiday in China, it’s a normal school / work day, so we were lucky for the Education Bureau to organise with our schools so that we could have the day off.
What else? I don’t know! Went to Dafen, an oil painting village on the outskirts of Shenzhen the other day, which was pretty cool. Bought myself a wee painting too! Will post some pics. Other than that it’s just been school as per usual, planning for the break over Spring Festival, and doing my best to avoid school lunches haha. Leaving you with photos!
