Etapa 30: Triacastela to Sarria

Today was hilly! I suspect that might become quite a common description of my days for the remainder of the Camino, but still, it’s true! Luckily the body seems to be handling it better now than in those first few days of the Camino with its steep downhills, but I do still get the odd twinge in the knees, and mum seems to be experiencing the same. Overall it wasn’t too difficult to get here though, so I’m not complaining!

We arrived about an hour before we could check into our accommodation, so we got a drink before just perching on a bench on the Camino route to enjoy the sunlight. As we were sitting there, Mike and Mercedes walked past who we haven’t seen since Logroño, I think, back on day 8!! We had a quick catch up before they went on their way, and then almost straight away Toni, from Barcelona, showed up, who we also haven’t seen now in a few days. Then later, we ran into Amy, who we met on day 1, and have been crossing paths with ever since. It’s like a wee Camino reunion!

We have our own room tonight, which is always a treat. We settled in, went through the usual showering and laundry routine, and then went for a wander, as we won’t see much in town. We were somewhat frightened by a huge set of stairs that is right on the Camino and we will have to walk up in the morning with our packs on. We did a practice run of them, and it was hard enough without having to carry all of our belongings up with us! We had a quick wander through the old part of town that the Camino goes through, then made a loop back through the new, “proper” part of town that people actually live in.

The evening was just spent enjoying having some space to ourselves, watching the Spanish news, and then a very interesting Spanish game show, and eating supermarket salads for dinner.
