We had a sleep in this morning, and didn’t get up until after 6, which was very nice. It seemed everyone in the room had similar plans, so there was no 4am rustling – a nice change!!
It was cool today, with the day’s high of 21°C not being reached until late this afternoon. Not long after we started walking, the fog settled in, and then just after our breakfast stop, the rain began. Throughout the day we could hear far off thunder, but it wasn’t close to us this time. I actually quite enjoy walking in weather like this, it’s much easier than 30°C heat!!

Soon before we arrived in the actual town of Triacastela, we walked past a wooden Neanderthal man, which seemed odd. It turns out that just out of town is the Eirós Cave, an archeological site where evidence of Neanderthal settlement is found, alongside examples of paleolithic art. The public isn’t allowed in, so we didn’t miss out on much by walking past our Neanderthal friend and not doing the research until later. We also passed a chestnut tree, famous for being 850 years old, apparently.

Triacastela seems a nice wee town, though there doesn’t appear to be much going on. There’s only 4 of us in our room tonight: me and mum, a Korean woman, and an American woman. No communal meal is available, so mum poached us a couple of eggs for dinner, which we followed up with a nectarine we were going to get an ice cream but the store closed earlier than we were expecting!
