Etapa 26: Molinaseca to Cacabelos

Today’s walk was pretty straightforward – only small hills, quite reasonable temperatures, interesting enough things to look at… it was rather pleasant, actually!

The first town we came to was Ponderrada, about 7km after leaving Molinaseca. As we walked into town we passed the Templar Castle, which was quite impressive, and then our first priority was finding somewhere to have breakfast. As we sat at the cafe, I noticed some people outside the church working on something on the ground. Once we had eaten I went and had a look – they were creating designs and images using coloured salt! Such a huge amount of work for something that will disappear as soon as there’s a big gust of wind, or if it starts raining!

Walking on from there we had a couple of small hills, but nothing too challenging. The vineyards seem to be back, though these are on a much smaller scale than they were during the early days of the Camino.

Here in Cacabelos there isn’t much going on – it’s a Sunday, so most things are closed, which doesn’t help. In the bunk room it is extremely hot and stuffy, which isn’t particularly pleasant, but it is what it is. As I’m lying here I’ve noticed that our two Italian room mates both appear to have athlete’s foot… I’ll need to be conscious of not being barefooted at all! There’s a leg massage chair downstairs that has “hygiene socks” – maybe I should go and get them some?
