Mum wasn’t feeling well today, so it was time for a solo walk! It felt a bit weird leaving by myself, I have to say! For almost a month now the longest amount of time I’ve had on my own is probably when I have a shower, and even then there’s often someone in the cubicle beside me, so it was unusual to be alone. To make it even stranger, it felt like there was almost no one else walking. I ran into Toni from Barcelona when I stopped for breakfast, and crossed paths with an Irish couple we met a few days ago, but other than that I walked most of the way today without even seeing someone else on the track before me or behind me. It was weird!

The walk was another easy one. There was a nice sunrise not long after I started walking, followed by a couple of small towns, then a longer stretch before reaching Sahagún. It looked like there had been a party there the night before – the streets were strewn with cups and bottles, and (oddly) bread. From Sahagún to Bercianos there was a bit of time walking along the road, but the track was also lined with trees a lot of the way which was nice, and also provided some much appreciated shade.

Bercianos is a bit bigger than the last few towns that we’ve stayed in, in that it does have a small food store – this is my new tool of measurement for the size of a town. Unfortunately, with it being a Sunday, that store is closed. There are familiar faces again at the albergue, with people we met on the first day, in Lorca, in Hornillos, and in Castrojeriz all together in this one place. There are still people we don’t know, but slowly we seem to be meeting most of the people around us.
Finally, we are now past both the distance and geographical midway points, and it all is suddenly feeling like it’s passing quite quickly! Just 350km to go…
