Not much to report today, so it will be a short one. Our day was also short, as we’re each dealing with ailments, and as such decided to break this stage in half. Today we walked 12km from Puente la Reina to a tiny little town called Lorca.
It was another hot day with less shade than we have become accustomed to, so even though it was shorter it still felt like a slog. We left later than usual, after 7, and arrived in Lorca around 12:30pm. We found our albergue and the lovely people who run it immediately gave us a glass of water and ushered us upstairs to get showered and to cool down before even checking in! Once we were settled, we checked in and they took our dinner order, and we went back upstairs for a nap.
Later in the afternoon we thought we’d go and explore the town, as the town festival is currently on. There wasn’t much for us to participate in though, as the whole town was still sat at the long tables placed in the main street for everyone to have lunch together. This was being set up as we walked into town, so I suppose it made sense that they were still wrapping lunch up at 3:30 in the afternoon.
We later joined the communal dinner at the hostel for €16 each. Mum had a salad to start and chicken with potatoes for her main, while I had melon and ham as my starter and beef with potatoes for my main. For dessert we got a fruit salad type thing. Mum headed upstairs soon after dinner while I stayed and chatted with some of the others – a couple from the Netherlands and a guy from Barcelona. They’re all planning on a 30km day tomorrow, so I suspect we won’t see them again at the next stop!
