Last Days

I can’t believe I’m headed home! I’ve had a relaxed last few days in the city, seeing a few sites, wandering the streets, soaking it all up.

One thing I did was visit Recoleta Cemetery. I really hadn’t intended to – I went last time I was here, and didn’t feel the need to go again, but I was walking past and then just decided to do it. Why not!? It’s a large above-ground cemetery with some of Argentina’s most famous dead people in it. Among the most famous has got to be Eva Perón, aka Evita, whose grave is one of the most visited. On the whole though, it’s just an interesting (albeit slightly unusual) place to walk around.

I also spent an afternoon at the Costanera Sur ecological reserve, a 350ha park containing all sorts of wildlife. I didn’t actually see much myself, apart from some interesting birds, but the pamphlets assure me it’s there!! Several people were these bathing in the river, despite signs not to, which I enjoyed. It was a nice walk, a green space in what is otherwise a very busy city!

On my last day, I spent some time exploring an art gallery and enjoying some time sitting outside in a plaza under a tree. Nothing too exciting, but nice to spend a few last hours in the city.

Right now, I’m just about to take off on my flight from Houston to Auckland. I had about 15 hours between flights today, so I spent it popping into the city and visiting the museum of natural sciences, which wasn’t a bad way to pass the day!!

These three weeks have gone so fast. I’ve liked it here. I’m so glad I went up to the north of the country to explore a bit – I’ve never been anywhere like it before. It was also amazing to be able to catch up with some wonderful people that I haven’t seen in far too long.

It’s been lovely. I suspect I’ll be back.
