7:10 am and I was lying in bed trying to convince myself that if I wanted to shower before school I really should get up now, when suddenly my phone rings. It’s Joyce telling me that there has been a red alert issued for storms in Shenzhen, and that school has been cancelled for the day! It’s been raining since Saturday morning, and is forecast to continue until Thursday. There were also thunderstorms on Saturday morning and night, all through Sunday, and, well.. now. Strangely though, I now have no problem getting out of bed :D

We’ve been back at school for a month and a half now, and it’s been largely uneventful. Lessons have been going alright, although I’m starting to run out of topics to teach them about, as I need them to be pretty interesting if the kids are going to take any notice! Lately a lot of my kids have been carrying around boxes of silkworms, which I’m guessing they probably have for a science project or something… either that or they’ve gotten over making origami stars and colourful bracelets, and silkworms are the new craze!

On Saturday we all trekked out to Longgang for the Color Run!  As we were walking to the Universiade centre from the metro station it started to rain lightly, and by the time everyone had picked up their runners packs it had transformed into a pretty intense thunderstorm. We took shelter with everyone else in the stadium for a while, before deciding to brave the weather and start anyways. At each kilometer mark along the course there was a colour station, with powdered colour that gets thrown at runners. The rain helped to turn the powder to  paste, and the colours soon ran together, so by the end we were all greyish blobs :D Was good fun though, playing in the colour. At the end, everyone wanted photos with the westerners, and we hung around for a bit before heading off and finding some lunch. Two days later now my hair still has pink and blue patches, my fingernails are stained redish, and I have quite orange eyebrows. I also suspect my sneakers will be forever a blueish purple colour :D Maybe it’s a good thing I don’t have school today, gives me an extra day to de-colour myself!

Anyways, hopefully some more interesting things will happen that I can tell you all about, never feel there’s much point writing here if I don’t have anything to say! I’m using stolen internet right now that’s pretty slow, so we’ll see if I can get some pics up…
